Alien Strike is a third-person shooter game in which the main character is not a person but a sort of armored truck equipped with the necessary weapons to stop an alien invasion. Thus, there are a series of missions with the ultimate goal of destroying the invaders base. The game is quite light if you compare with those popular giant games available nowadays and it is very easy to install.
Since running a 3D game can be quite demanding in terms of resources, it is good news that every time you start a session, you have the chance to adapt the game to your hardware. In this respect, you can choose whether you want to play the game in windowed or full-screen mode. Likewise, there are three different presets: Speed, Balance and Quality, which control screen resolution, anisotropic filtering, texture quality as well as audio frequency and bitrate.
The game’s main menu provides you with access to a few options. For instance, it is possible to set mouse and keyboard controls different from those coming by default. However, you will need to remember your settings as you will not get additional help while you are playing the game. Other options allow saving or loading your game session. Additionally, you have access to saved game scores, which you cannot share with others over the network.
There is a story that serves as a pretext for your actions, and it is shown every time you start a new game session. Unfortunately, it is rather dull and unimaginative. As you play the game, you will need to find your way through a sort of maze and sometimes there will be checkpoints in which you are assigned missions. Once you accomplish your mission, you are given a reward, like opening a door to a different part of the maze.
The game graphics are just OK, and, as said, you can adjust their quality. Although the objects are tridimensional, you cannot change your angle of view, which usually affects aiming at the targets. Unluckily, the music is kind of boring and repetitive and you cannot use a custom track.
All in all, Alien Strike is one of those games you may play casually. However, I cannot imagine myself getting addicted to it. Luckily, the game is absolutely free for everyone, an opportunity you should not miss to try it.
